We are looking for Bloggers!
Want to Blog with us?
Looking for loyal, responsible, servers......You can obtain them...Once you have them you need and want to keep them.
How can you keep them you ask?
1) Treat them with respect, respect, and more respect...Do not treat them as you are the manager and they are your slaves. Respect for your server in return gets you respect.
2) Say "thank you" at the end of the day for doing a good job.
3) When a customer tells you that a particular server did an outstanding job, go ahead and tell that server. Do not tell a server only when a bad comment is
made. A good server brings you back your customers, not the management. Your business grows with your servers doing a good job.
4) Just like you want your servers to be in good spirits, you have to leave your problems outside the door too....Remember, you are the manager and your bad mood trickles down to your staff. It makes you unapproachable which does not make for good business.
5) Have the tools that a server needs to do their job available to them. Do not have the server running around the building looking for example, silverware.
That takes away time from the customer.
6) Do not Talk Down to your servers. They are people too. You are not better then they are. You are in a different position then servers are but, that does not mean you are smarter or more educated. Many servers are working in your restaurant are to support their college education, support their family, supplement their income. They are not there because they are too stupid to do anything else.
7) Keep negativity to a minimum. If you are always negative, your servers will be negative too. Customers pickup on that negativity.
8) Keep yourself, as a manager, up on good leadership skills (if your company does not offer any skill-building seminars, then attend third party seminars on your own), keep updated with all aspects of Human Resources, motivational tools, etc.
The list can keep going on but, by now, I hope you get the point. These are very important tools that you need to keep handy in your head to have your restaurant run efficiently and be profitable. Being a server is hard enough dealing with irate customers they do not have to have internal issues going on too.
And if you are wondering, yes I am a server. I am server that had a very high position with a major corporation, have two college degrees, managed many retails stores, trained many employees with skill and product seminars, and had always attended any seminars to keep me up- to- date with new technology, new labor laws, better leadership skills, anything that would help me do my job better.
When my position was eliminated after 13 years of loyal services, I decided that I really enjoyed dealing with the public and did not want to deal with Corporate America anymore I decided to become a server. I have been in that position for over 5 years nowand I make a good living and have an abundance of regular customers. I make my money from tips not my hourly rate which is $2.13 and hour. We will leave the rate of pay for another blog.
Hope you enjoy this post and please feel free to leave your comments.
